This Spiced Apple Cider recipe is a warm, comforting drink that’s perfect for fall and winter. Infused with cinnamon, cloves, and fresh apples, it’s easy to make and can be customized to your liking.

- 8 apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties)
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 5 whole cloves
- 2 star anise
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger (sliced)
- 1 orange (sliced)
- 6 cups water
- ¼ cup maple syrup or brown sugar (optional for sweetness)
- Optional: ½ cup rum, bourbon, or brandy for spiked cider
Instructions
- Wash and roughly chop the apples. There’s no need to peel or core them.
- In a large pot or slow cooker, combine the apples, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and ginger.
- Pour in the water and bring it to a simmer.
- Simmer on low for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally and mashing the apples as they soften.
- Once done, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove solids.
- Taste the cider and adjust sweetness with maple syrup or brown sugar, if needed.
- Serve warm, garnished with a cinnamon stick or orange slice, and enjoy!

- Add alcohol after straining for a spiked version.
