Description

These Caprese Skewers with Balsamic Drizzle are an easy and elegant appetizer that’s perfect for any occasion. Made with fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, they’re quick to prepare and full of vibrant Italian flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • Fresh basil leaves (approximately 30-40 leaves)
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar (for homemade glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (optional for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare Ingredients: Wash the tomatoes and basil leaves. Drain and pat the mozzarella balls dry.
  • Soak Wooden Skewers: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 15-20 minutes.
  • Assemble Skewers: On each skewer, alternate cherry tomatoes, folded basil leaves, and mozzarella balls until the skewer is full. Leave about 1 inch of space at the bottom for handling.
  • Make the Balsamic Glaze (Optional): In a small saucepan, combine ½ cup balsamic vinegar and 2 tablespoons honey. Simmer on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reduces by half and thickens into a syrupy consistency. Let it cool.
  • Drizzle and Season: Arrange the skewers on a serving tray. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve Immediately: Caprese skewers are best served fresh.

Notes

  • Assemble the skewers no more than 4-6 hours before serving to maintain freshness.
  • If storing, refrigerate the skewers without the balsamic glaze and add the drizzle just before serving.
  • For a heartier option, layer prosciutto or salami between the mozzarella and basil.
